Earlier this week, when head coach Bill Self spoke with the media, he very early on alluded to the point that the Jayhawks were in for another player.

"I would actually be open to adding another." Self said. "And we're in the process of definitely looking into another. In my opinion, [he] needs to be a guy that can at least run a team, play the point, maybe have some experience of shooting the ball, but you know, if something were to happen, [if] somebody were to go down, you know, [we could use] an insurance policy as well. So we're looking [to], hopefully get something done with that."

Well, it looks like that came to fruition as the Jayhawks have reportedly added Nginyu Ngala, a 25-year-old point guard from Laurentian University, according to Jeff Goodman

Last season for Laurentian, Ngala marked 14 points per game, with nearly three assists and one steal. His season high was 24 against the Waterloo Warriors. Ngala earned an all-star spot and was named the Voyageurs’ male Athlete of the Year last season.

At 25 years old, Ngala marks the experience Self mentioned was needed earlier on in the season. At 5-foot-10, question marks are sure to be presented over his stature, but for a team that Self is inheriting with much size, Ngala adds versatility in the guard slot.

Before playing for Laurentian, Ngala played for the Dalhousie Tigers, a fellow university, where Ngala played for three years.

Ngala saw an average of 24 minutes a game in his first year of eligibility, which rose to nearly 30 in his second season, and it stabilized at around 28 minutes in his final season. Adding to the notion that Self desires veteran players on the court to lead the team.

In all three years with the Tigers, Ngala never averaged less than 10 points, peaking at nearly 18 in his second season.

Ngala will be marshaling a team filled with high expectations after the addition of the 247Sports No.1 player in the country, Darryn Peterson. Eight players on this Jayhawks team are underclassmen, Peterson included. Four of the listed guards on the roster are underclassmen.
