The Kansas football program has taken a big step forward under head coach Lance Leipold. With Leipold, the Jayhawks now expect bowl games to become the norm, a far cry from the program Leipold walked into.

While the last two seasons have seen a slight dip in back-to-back 5-7 campaigns, Leipold has earned plenty of backing from KU supporters to get things right. One of the best things the former Buffalo coach has been able to do is bring in the right pieces in, and minutes ago, the Jayhawks landed another right piece in three-star 2027 athlete Trey Stewart

According to 247Sports, Stewart plays both sides of the ball as a linebacker and as a running back; however, it appears that Stewart will be sticking to offense at KU.

Stewart held offers from several power-conference schools, including Arkansas, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Arizona State, Iowa State, Miami, Missouri, Oklahoma, Purdue, Wake Forest and SMU.

Despite the numerous offers, Stewart had narrowed down either the Jayhawks or the Razorbacks as his new home.

Running success paves the way for Stewart

Under running back coach Jonathan Wallace, the Jayhawks have been able to become a consistent running offense. Despite KU having to deal with a banged-up rotation of Leshon Williams and Daniel Hishaw Jr. last season, Kansas finished with the No. 60th rushing offense that compiled 157.8 yards per game

Wallace most recently produced current NFL Saint Devin Neal, who enjoyed a storied career as a Jayhawk that included 49 rushing touchdowns and 4,343 yards for an outstanding 5.7 yards per carry.

Kansas has just reeled in a stellar transfer duo of Dylan Edwards (Kansas State) and Yasin Willis (Syracuse), who both have two years of eligibility left, meaning it is doubtful Stewart finds himself getting valuable time as a freshman. Past those two though, the room becomes wide open for the heavily sought-after Stewart to make his mark.

Stewart becomes the third commit, joining wide receiver Deng Tong and offensive tackle Derek Gonzalez.
