Every college basketball season, there is the expectation that the Kansas Jayhawks are going to be in the running for a Big 12 title, be in the NCAA Tournament, and be in the running for a national title. The basketball analysts expect it, Bill Self expects it, the players expect it, and the fans all expect it.
That is a lot for a team to hold on its shoulders, and it seems that it apparently got to the players in the 2024-2025 team. Former Kansas center Hunter Dickinson was a guest on the "Ain't No Seats" Podcast and spoke about his final year at Kansas, and apparently, it wasn't all sunshine and roses, as many would have believed.
Kansas fans may not love what Hunter Dickinson had to say about his final year in Lawrence
Last season was one of the toughest years of a Bill Self-coached Kansas team, which finished the regular season at 21-11 and lost in the Big 12 Tournament to Arizona. Things went from bad to worse when the Jayhawks were upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Dickinson spoke about the state of the team and even his own mindset at times, and it will probably shock many Jayhawks fans. Dickinson said the team didn't feel supported by many of the fans, especially after losses, and it resulted in him losing love for the game. Others on the team even checked out early and were ready for the season to end.

-Didn’t feel supported at times due to negative KU fans.
-Felt like it was a job and was no longer fun.
-A few of his teammates were ready for season to end and checked out early.

The Kansas fanbase, when it comes to basketball, has always been one of the fiercest. It seems like Dickinson is blaming the entire fanbase for a small group that didn't know how to act after a loss. Some fans had mixed feelings about Dickinson, and this may not help matters.
Dickinson did some great things at Kansas, but one season doesn't define a career, or a lifetime of playing the game you love. Kansas fans may not have that same love for Dickinson after these comments.
