The NBA season is mere days away, after a grueling Summer off, and the preseason is coming to a close, and now the fans of the Jayhawks can revel in some of the elite names in the NBA.

There is now a new name to add to your watchlist, Kansas fans. Earlier today, former Jayhawk Zeke Mayo was signed to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While the Jayhawks experienced a 2024-25 season that was filled with more downs than ups, Mayo was a consistently bright spot. Having transferred from South Dakota State, Mayo appeared in every game and made 32 starts during the season.

14.6 points per game, 2.9 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. Mayo also notched an efficient 44.7% field goal rate with a 42.2% clip from beyond the arc. The only noticeable stat that may prove a hiccup in Mayo’s game is his career average of 2.4 turnovers per game.

Mayo notched at least 20 points on 10 separate occasions, with his biggest showing being 27 points against West Virginia when Kansas lost 62-61.

For the TBT team JHX Hoops over the Summer, Mayo compiled 12.3 points per game on a 32.3% clip, with five rebounds and two assists per game. Once again, Mayo’s turnovers stick out like a sore thumb as he compiled five in the final game of JHX season, a 71-68 loss to Heartfire.

If Mayo can smooth his turnover numbers, then there is no doubt he can compete for minutes in this Cavs offense.

Last season, the Cavaliers marked a 64-18 record under head coach Kenny Atkinson, before losing to the eventual runner-up Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals in just five games.
