Kansas basketball is finally starting to finish piecing together its roster for the upcoming season. Bill Self and the Jayhawks underwent a complete transformation, losing three starters to graduation and every other 2024-25 contributor with remaining eligibility to the transfer portal.
After adding three transfers, Self and Co. are not done yet. Texas Tech forward Darrion Williams is entering the transfer portal, as well as declaring for the NBA Draft. According to a report, he is a potential target for the Jayhawks.
Kansas basketball could add another star in Darrion Williams
Jayme Hollingsworth of GoCoogs.com posted an interesting remark on X recently, stating: "Darrion Williams from Texas Tech is allegedly leaning towards transferring to Kansas." 247 Sports analyst Michael Swain echoed this sentiment in a VIP article.
That is not a bad sign if you are a Jayhawk fan dreaming of a stacked frontcourt. Given his familiarity with the Big 12, it would make plenty of sense for Williams to look at Kansas as a serious option. Arizona and BYU have also been rumored to be in the mix, but most reports suggest BYU might be more likely if he decides not to head to Lawrence or the pros.
Williams was nothing short of fantastic last year at Texas Tech. He transferred in after his freshman season at Nevada and wasted no time making his mark during two seasons in Lubbock. He averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 43.9% from the field. Those numbers earned him an All-Big 12 First Team selection.
According to On3's Industry Ranking, Williams is the seventh-best player to enter the transfer portal. Pairing him in the frontcourt with Flory Bidunga, with an alternate option of Tre White sliding over to play a small-ball four, would be a tough group for any school to match up with. If Kansas can land Williams, KU's roster could go from good to downright scary.
