Last season, Kansas saw its ups and downs, despite starting the season with just a 1-5 mark, the Jayhawks were able to turn it around and push themselves towards a 4-2 stretch that narrowly saw the Jayhawks miss out on a third bowl game in four seasons after a 45-17 loss to the Baylor Bears.
While Kansas was able to show promising ability with three ranked wins on the season, it was ultimately not enough and Kansas saw tight margins in seven one-score games, with five losses coming from those. When combing over different situations in different matchups, there are an unlimited number of different things that could have changed.
After last season, Kansas saw 28 transfers join the program, with 16 freshman entering the ranks as well.
Last season, Kansas ranked second-worst in the Big 12 with average yards per punt, with 41. 8 yards per punt, 6.4 yards behind the conference-leading Baylor.
Kansas reeled in redshirt senior Finn Lappin who comes from McNeese State. Lappin played in all 12 games at McNeese State as a freshman, punting 61 times for 2,811 yards (46.1 avg.), with eight touchbacks and 19 inside the 20-yard line.
McNeese State finished last season with a 6-6 record.
Kansas fans are soon to see Lappin in action as the Jayhawks are given a week zero matchup against Mountain West side Fresno State. Last season the Bulldogs went 6-7 eventually losing the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl against Northern Illinois University. Fresno State is set to travel to the revamped David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, a place where Kansas missed all season as renovations were underway throughout last season forcing the Jayhawks to play at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium and Children's Mercy Park
Kickoff is set to take place Saturday, August 23rd at 5:30 PM CT.
