Harris started his career as a three-star prospect out of Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tenn. Harris was held high school offers from Memphis, Eastern Kentucky, Furman, Navy, Air Force, Miami (OH), Princeton and Chattanooga where he eventually committed. In Harris' final season of high school he mounted 7.0 tackles for loss and six interceptions to go with nine pass breakups. Harris was ranked as the 52nd-ranked player in Tennessee. Prior to his senior season, Harris accumulated 63 tackles as a junior. Harris completes his impressive resume by finishing as a state champ in the 4x100 relay
As a junior and senior in high school, Harris was nominated All-region second-team and first team as a senior.
In Harris' sole season at Chattanooga, the now sophomore played in all 12 games as a true freshman, compiling 11 tackles, three fumble recoveries and a touchdown against Western Carolina, while also being named as a freshman All-America by Phil Steele.
Three fumble recoveries is nothing to shy away from, barring the matchup against Western Carolina Harris had a further two, one against Georgia State, the other against VMI.
Harris was a massive pickup from Chattanooga with an .8500 rating after a superb season as the team went 7-5 before Harris opted to transfer.
Harris' father Leroy Harris Jr. spent seven years in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans and the Detroit Lions, with the last season for the Lions. Harris played 76 games, including 42 starts.
