Excitement for the 2024-25 Kansas basketball campaign is mounting as game one nears. The Jayhawks were ranked No. 1 in the AP Preseason Poll for the second consecutive year, and expectations for Bill Self and Co. are higher than ever as they look to bounce back from consecutive Round of 32 defeats in the NCAA Tournament.

While KU's current team is the talking point in Lawrence, Coach Self remains busy on the recruiting trail. According to 247 Sports' Eric Bossi, he was in to see 5-star guard and recruiting target Darryn Peterson on Wednesday. Could this have been Peterson confirming he would commit to the Jayhawks?

Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self visits Darryn Peterson

Peterson has been trending toward Kansas for quite some time now. Many Jayhawk fans have considered him a lock since he inked a high school NIL deal with Adidas, but he has weighed his options. He has taken official visits to K-State, USC, and Ohio State, which is only a few hours away from his hometown, Canton.

The senior at Prolific Prep is considered one of the best combo guard recruits in this decade. His offensive skill set is diverse and he can score at all three levels. If he were to commit to Kansas, he would be the Jayhawks' highest-rated high school recruit since Andrew Wiggins.

Since the regular season commences on Nov. 4, Self and his coaching staff will be on the road or practicing most of the time. However, Peterson's decision date is before that, scheduled for Nov. 1. Therefore, the Hall of Famer is likely making one of his final trips to the superstar prospect before he makes his official announcement.

Kansas basketball has yet to land a commitment in the Class of 2025, but Peterson would immediately give KU one of the top classes in the nation with his pledge. With his decision date looming, we could very well find him donning a crimson and blue jersey two weeks from now.
