Kansas’ 2026 recruiting class is already looking like one of the best in the nation. The Jayhawks are one of three contenders left for No. 1 recruit Tyran Stokes, while also already compiling five-star guard Taylen Kinney, and four-stars Davion Adkins (C), Trent Perry (SF), and shooting guard Luke Barnett, according to 247Sports.

All the aforementioned recruits were listed inside the top 140 in the nation, and there is still room for one more in 6-foot-3 guard Quentin Coleman.

Coleman’s sudden opening in recruitment

Coleman is currently listed as the country’s 34th-best prospect in the class of 2026, a huge spike thanks to an elite season, eventually culminating in Coleman asking to be released from his letter of commitment, which was granted by Wake Forest.

Kansas throws its name into the race for the elite guard

ESPN’s Paul Biancardi spilled some of the early contenders for Coleman, and the Jayhawks were involved for the Missouri product

247Sports Adam Finkelstein broke down Coleman’s game, and here is a small excerpt of what KU fans could expect.

“Coleman is a skilled and smooth guard who can really shoot the basketball. He has a virtually pure release that is ultra-fluid with good loft and rotation. He made 39% of his threes during the EYBL season and showed versatility in his shot-making profile. He has obvious gravity spotting up, really understands how to space the floor, and has a complementing one dribble pull-up.”

So much uncertainty ahead of next season’s roster

Elmarko Jackson, Jamari McDowell, Kohl Rosario, and Corbin Allen are the only scholarship guards set to be on the roster. It is up in the air if former JUCO guard Melvin Council Jr. will be eligible for a final year, but it is smart to assume the answer will be no, for now at least.

Kinney will likely be shuffled into the starting lineup, and Barnett may also factor in at certain points.

Of course, there is also the NCAA Transfer Portal, which could both add to the depth or take away from it, meaning that right now, there are still several questions on who will be with the program by the time the 2026/27 season begins.
