Kansas has been receiving a lot of news of former players finding new homes out of the transfer portal, but unfortunately, Bill Self has yet to bring anyone new in. While the Jayhawks have nearly lost everyone on the roster from the 2025-2026 basketball season, Self has been working to try to bring in new talent, but the results haven't been seen yet.
Self has the opportunity to get the first domino to fall, though, by showing interest in freshman New Mexico guard Jake Hall. There are many programs interested in Hall, who entered the transfer portal with a 'Do Not Contact' tag, but is also open to a return to New Mexico.
Reported by On3's Joe Tipton, Hall is receiving interest from not just Kansas, but many big programs like UNC, Duke, Indiana, UConn, Illinois, and others. Self will have to pull out all the stops to try and get Hall as his first transfer portal commit, and hopefully start the domino effect of bringing in other players as well.

Bill Self desperately needs something out of the trasnfer portal to keep up with fellow blue bloods
Kansas fans felt a wave of relief when Bill Self announced his return to Lawrence for next season, but that relief quickly turned to panic as, for the next week, nearly every rostered player entered the transfer portal, declared for the NBA Draft, or was out of eligibility.
Self has shown interest in a couple of players from the portal, but they have either already committed elsewhere or have continued to look at other schools. While Hall does have the 'Do Not Contact' tag, that doesn't mean he hasn't been in contact with the schools showing interest.
Hall would be a great addition for Kansas next season after a stellar freshman year, averaging 16.4 points per game, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. Hall was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year as well, and would bring good experience to the Jayhawks, who are looking to have a pretty young team next season.
Self has four freshmen coming in as of right now next season, with hopes of Tyran Stokes making it five. Hall would be a good young player that Self could help develop, but he also has enough experience to anchor Kansas with so much youth around him.
