Tomorrow, the No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks are set to take on the Towson Tigers after what was an exhaustive Saturday against the NC State Wolfpack. While Kansas would eventually persevere in an overtime 77-76 win over Will Wade’s side, it wasn’t without strife.
As the game was entering its apex in regulation with just under two minutes to play, star freshman Darryn Peterson exited and did not see the court again for the rest of the evening. This, of course, caused a massive postgame stir amongst basketball pundits and fans alike, with TNT’s Jamal Mashburn and Jalen Rose even debating whether Peterson should be “shut down.”
Minutes ago, head coach Bill Self revealed the latest on Peterson’s health.
Self said he's got no idea where things stand with Darryn. They didn't practice yesterday. Said he had some quad cramping against N.C. State. #kubball

This ambiguous quote will, of course, leave things up in the air for the former five-star recruit. The Jayhawks have only played Peterson in four games this season, and while the potential No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft has excelled, his lack of time on the court thanks to his lingering injury status is concerning.
Self, on DP, clarifies that he hasn't heard the word hamstring one time in last couple of days. "And that's coming from our medical staff"

"I know it's frustrating for him. He gets out there & can't move. We've got to figure that out & we certainly haven't done it yet." #KUbball
Prior to Peterson’s exit against the Wolfpack this past weekend, after a shaky start which only saw the Prolific Prep alum notch just five points, Peterson lit up the second half with 12 points in the second period on an efficient 5-8 mark from the field.
Ultimately, while Peterson’s exit was a talking point across the nation, so was the performance from transfer guard Melvin Council Jr., who finished the day with 36 points on 9-15 from the field.
Tipoff for tomorrow’s matchup against Towson is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN 2. Kansas will then take on Davidson on the 22nd, before Big 12 play begins on January 3rd against the UCF Golden Knights.
