The Kansas Jayhawks have flipped the tide of the season in just 80 minutes.

To start things off, Kansas dismantled the No. 2 Iowa State Cyclones earlier this week, in what was a monster 84-63 win that shook the collegiate basketball sphere. But the thing is, any team can catch fire for one night, and the annals of Allen Fieldhouse will always provide enough spark for any team to catch fire. Can they do it again when the emotion wears off, and the Jayhawks need to continue their streak with a win over the Baylor Bears?

A thumping 80-62 win over Scott Drew’s team answers the question with a resounding yes. Star guard Darryn Peterson and dominant center Flory Bidunga took the reins of the 18-point win, with the combo notching 49 points, and an even stronger 22-27 rate from the field.

Now, during nearly every minute of Friday night’s win, Kansas was ferocious. If they needed to get inside the paint, they did with 42 points in the paint. When the Jayhawks needed a defensive stand, Kansas would kill the momentum and ultimately hold the Bears to just 36.1% from the field, a stark dropoff from their typical 47.2% rate from the field, and what spurred such an emphatic performance was Bill Self’s handwritten message on the board before the game

“We can’t be one-hit wonders.”

Three instant takeaways from the Kansas Jayhawks' authoritative win over Baylor

The one-hit is obviously looking back to Kansas’ electric win over the Cyclones, and it is safe to say the Jayhawks took that message to heart with another dominating performance.

Friday night’s win moved Kansas’ record to 13-5 with a 3-2 conference mark. However, things in the Big 12 never get easier as three of the Jayhawks’ next four games are away from home, with the Colorado Buffaloes up next on the schedule.

The Jayhawks take on the Buffaloes next Tuesday with tipoff set for 10 p.m. CT and streaming available on ESPN.
