On Sunday, the 7-3 No. 21 Kansas Jayhawks had the rare pleasure of taking on their archrivals, the Missouri Tigers, in the Border Showdown.

Heading into the fixture, Missouri was red-hot with a clean 8-1 record under head coach Dennis Gates. However, Kansas did a great job of neutralizing the pressure that was on them with a big 80-60 win over the Tigers

Four Jayhawks rang in double-digit scorelines with Tre White (20), Bryson Tiller (13), Peterson (17), and Flory Bidunga (10).

After the victory, Kansas head coach Bill Self spoke about the 23 minutes Peterson played.

This was Peterson’s first minutes since an 87-74 loss to the now No. 16 UNC Tar Heels. Against the Tigers, Peterson totaled a 6-14 rate from the field, with a 3-9 mark from beyond the arc. Peterson also tallied three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

In the first half, the Jayhawks were struggling to be efficient offensively. Over the first 20 minutes, the Jayhawks were shooting at a 35.7% rate, and the only time Kansas found separation was in the last 1:3,2 where a 5-0 run opened an eight-point 33-25 lead.

Yet it was a tale of two halves as the Jayhawks saw a monster 47 points on a 55.2% field goal rate. The biggest difference was a strong 24 points in the paint to the Jayhawks, as in the first half, Kansas struggled down low with only 10 points in the first period.

Up next for Kansas is the NC State Wolfpack, yet the two won’t meet for nearly a week as he tipoff is scheduled for December 13th at 4:30 p.m. CT.
