Kansas head coach Bill Self is starting to find. groove in the transfer portal as the Jayhawks just landed another player. Last season, Kansas found a lot of success bringing in Melvin Council Jr. from St. Bonaventure, a mid-major program, and now they just might have found his replacement.
While Council is still looking at trying to get another year of eligibility, Kansas can't bank on that, so bringing in another dynamic guard was a must. Self is still waiting for a decision from Utah transfer Terrance Brown, whose future is in the air at the moment.
Toledo transfer Leroy Blyden Jr. has officially chosen the Kansas Jayhawks as his next home, and it feels like a home run for Self. In just one season at Toledo, Blyden won the MAC Rookie of the Year Award, averaging 16.4 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Leroy Bylden Jr.'s transfer could affect things with Terrence Brown and Kansas
While the Blyden news is great for Kansas, which is desperately in need of players after the mass portal exodus, this does raise some questions about what will happen with Terrance Brown. The Utah transfer had an official visit with Kansas last week that seemed to go well.
However, this news of Blyden's transfer could signal that Kansas is out of the race for Brown, and Self has found the next best option for the Jayhawks. It seems Brown could choose the Tar Heels, even though Kansas seemed to make an impression.
While the combo of Brown and Blyden seems unfair to the rest of college basketball, it feels unlikely that Self would have gotten both out of the portal. Things could still turn up for Kansas with Brown, but for now, celebrating the commitment from Blyden will have to do.
