For the No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks, Monday night represents their last chance to get things tidied up before the all-crucial Big 12 play gets underway. So far this season, Kansas has managed a strong 9-3 record, and despite having seen star guard Darryn Peterson only see the court in four games, Kansas’ top-notch defense has been able to prop up a struggling offense, which has often missed the former five-star.

Prior to Monday night’s matchup against Davidson, Kansas head coach Bill Self spoke in his pre-game preview with Kansas athletics and confirmed bad news for those expecting to see Peterson on the court.

“No update, other than the fact that he will not play tonight. He’s not quite there, so that’s where it's at. We still think positive, but not tonight.”

Peterson’s last appearance, a 77-76 overtime classic against NC State on December 13, saw him leave the game with just under two minutes to play with what was described as quad cramping from Self.

This has been an injury-ridden season for the Prolific Prep alum, as Peterson has seen his season largely cut short due to hamstring tightness; cramps aren’t unfamiliar, though, as a preseason exhibition against Louisville saw him exit early in the second half.

When on the court, however, Peterson has oozed class with s armstrong 19.3 points per game average. Combine that with 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and a phenomenal 52.8% field goal rate, and the evidence stacks up to his five-star rating.

Kansas takes the court at 7 p.m. CT against the Wildcats with streaming available on ESPN+.
