October is upon us, and we're now just five weeks away from the start of the 2025-26 men's basketball season. Meanwhile, the recruiting battle for the class of 2026 has been heating up among college programs and coaching staffs.

Kansas just landed its first two commits from the class this past week. Taylen Kinney (No. 1 true PG in 2026, No. 13 overall recruit, according to 247sports) announced he would play for the Jayhawks last Sunday afternoon. Trent Perry (No. 39 SF, No. 120 overall recruit, according to 247sports) announced his college decision on Wednesday afternoon, choosing KU over Maryland and TCU. The past couple of days have marked a very strong start to the Jayhawks' 2026 recruiting class, with another addition possible this weekend.

This coming Sunday, Kansas will have a chance to strengthen its 2026 class when Davion Adkins (No. 3 center, No. 34 overall recruit, according to 247sports) announces his college decision. Along with Kansas, Adkins is reportedly considering Houston and Rutgers. The big man from Dallas, Texas is currently playing high school ball for Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (the same prep school that Darryn Peterson attended). He has taken visits to all three schools on his final list, most recently visiting Kansas this past weekend.

Though he's listed at just 6-foot-9, Adkins plays with a much bigger presence and boasts a 7-foot-2 wingspan. He brings the mature, defensive mindset that Bill Self, Kelvin Sampson, and Steve Pikiell are always looking for in their players.

Kansas commit Taylen Kinney claims he is actively recruiting Adkins to join him in the crimson and blue next season, along with No. 1 overall recruit in the nation, Tyran Stokes. Kinney also told Joe Tipton of On3 that he already knows of another player who will soon announce his commitment to KU, and that very well could be Davion Adkins.

Many top players in the class have yet to announce their decisions, and Kansas remains in the mix for several of them. Some of the most notable players linked to Kansas include: Tajh Ariza, Ethan Taylor, Ikenna Alozie, Maximo Adams, and Alex Constanza, among others. Announcements for each of these recruits are expected in the near future.

If the Jayhawks earn a commitment from Adkins for next season, he would join a frontcourt that could potentially feature current KU big men Bryson Tiller and Paul Mbiya (assuming Flory Bidunga turns pro). That group holding down the paint would be absolutely lethal to the rest of the league.

Tune in to ESPN2 on Sunday night at 6 p.m. CT to watch Davion Adkins in action for Prolific Prep as they take on Tulare Union (CA). After that, he plans to announce his college decision during halftime of the following game between Dynamic Prep (TX) and Notre Dame (CA), which tips off at 8 p.m. CT.

Could Davion Adkins be Bill Self's next big man on campus? We'll find out Sunday night.
