KU Athletics received a historic donation of $300 million this week from Kansas alumnus David Booth, whose name is already on the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

According to Yahoo Sports, it is the biggest single donation in university history and one of the biggest individual contributions ever in collegiate sports.

These new funds will go toward continued renovations to the stadium and the Gateway project. Some of those additions include a hotel, retail and restaurant spaces, and an outdoor event space.

Other uses for the donation include student housing and improved parking around the stadium.

This isn't the first donantion to KU Athletics by David Booth

Eight years ago, Booth donated $50 million toward stadium upgrades, according to Yahoo Sports. That was the biggest single donation in KU Athletics history until now. He's made other, smaller donations over the years.

In the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary There's No Place Like Home, Booth purchased Dr. James Naismith's original, hand-written rules of the game for over $4 million, and are now on display at the DeBruce Center, next to Allen Fieldhouse.

Earlier this month, KU Endowment announced a $25 million donation from Paul and Linda DeBruce, also for the Gateway Project.

KU Athletics has been working hard to improve their stadium and facilities, and the Gateway Project will make area around the stadium a destination spot for KU fans.

Now the Kansas football team needs to show continued improvement on the field to match the upgrades to the stadium and other areas. The Jayhawks under head coach Lance Leipold are 20-18 over the last three years after more than a decade of ineptitude.

It is an incredible donation and is almost hard to fathom, but Booth has proven over and over that he always will be a Jayhawk. Kansas fans everywhere are thankful for his interest in KU Athletics. Rock Chalk!
