JHX Hoops is coming off of an incredible Game 3 win over the Kansas State Alumni Team in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), led by Frank Mason III. On Monday night, the stakes were even higher in a single-elimination game against the reigning champions, the Wichita State Alumni Team, better known in TBT as the AfterShocks… And boy did it get testy!
Towards the end of the 2nd quarter, KU Legend Mario Chalmers got tangled up with the AfterShocks Rashard Kelly. After just seconds, it turned into a scuffle, pouring into the baseline area of the floor. Both Chalmers and Kelly were ejected after review, along with 7 additional players who left their respective benches:

The Kansas Alumni Team saw all of Mario Chalmers, Jamari Traylor, Kevin Young, and Tra-Deon Hollins ejected. Meanwhile, the Wichita State Alumni Team saw five players ejected in QJ Peterson, James Woodard, Rashard Kelly, Mo Udeze, and Chaunce Jenkins. Together, the teams saw 9 total players ejected and were each left with just 6 players for the rest of the game.
Fortunately, JHX Hoops’ best player in Zeke Mayo was still available to play and JHX Hoops’ clutchest player in Mason III wasn’t tossed either. Joined by the defensive pest in Jacob Hanna, and three capable bigs in Billy Preston, Carlton Bragg Jr. and Andrew Orr, the KU Alumni Team had just enough firepower left to push the defending TBT champions down to the wire.
Mayo, Hanna, and Mason III Send JHX Hoops to the Alumni Championship
The guard trio of Mayo, Hanna, and Mason III combined for 53 of JHX’s 64 total points and all three shined in different ways. Hanna was relentless on defense and helped hold Marcus Keene to just 13 points (and 7 turnovers). He added 15 points of his own. Meanwhile, Mayo poured in 25 points and willed his way to the rim multiple times to go along with some huge threes.
Mason III on the other hand, was shooting just 3/19 from the field and 1/6 from beyond the arc, looking burnt out as the game was unfolding. Frank did what Frank does however when it was time for the Elam ending, and scored the final 6 points of the game for JHX Hoops, hitting back-to-back monster threes for the eventual 64-59 win:

JHX Hoops will now head to Lexington to face off with La Familia (Kentucky Alumni Team) in the Historic Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday at 6:00pm CT. The winner of this single-elimination game will earn the right to host the TBT championship.
While JHX has to win yet another road game in a brutal environment, this team clearly has the juice and the chemistry to get the job done. Coach Sherron Collins has been talking about this team’s unselfishness all tournament long and now the fellas are just two wins away from the $2,000,000 prize. Rock Chalk!
