The hottest months of the recruiting cycle are upon us, and every program is gearing up for its biggest weekends to host official visits. Kansas will host its biggest official visit weekend in Lawrence in just a few days.
Head coach Lance Leipold is working to bring Kansas back to simply being a respectable program after back-to-back 5-7 seasons in Lawrence. Leipold could start to feel his seat start to warm up if he doesn't bring at least a bowl-eligible season back to Kansas in 2026, but recruiting could help save him.
Kansas currently has nine recruits committed in the Class of 2027, giving the Jayhawks a Top 50 recruiting class, the No. 45 class according to Rivals national rankings, to be exact. Kansas is getting ready to host a whole lot of recruits this upcoming weekend, including four already committed to the Jayhawks.
Leipold will welcome 11 recruits to Lawrence this upcoming weekend, the most for any Kansas official visit weekend. With four commits coming, that leaves seven recruits still very open to the Jayhawks, and every one of them is a target for the Leipold, but he must prioritize these three in hopes of getting commitments soon.
Clarence Johnson Jr. - EDGE
Kansas has loaded up on the offensive side of the ball so far in the 2027 recruiting class, so there are not just one, but two defensive players on this list. It starts with three-star safety Clarence Johnson Jr., who is the No. 34 edge rusher in the class according to 247Sports.
Kansas had the No. 12 defense in the Big 12 last season, and while they will get some aid with the Class of 2026 coming in, there are only two recruits coming in to help out. Leipold has to put some attention on the defensive side of the ball. While offense is important, it doesn't matter what they can do if the defense can't get stops in order to give the Jayhawks the best shot at a win.
Kansas is battling two other schools, Northwestern and the Jayhawks' bitter rival over the border, Missouri. With official visits to both schools, Leipold will have to put emphasis on getting something out of Johnson while he is in Lawrence because he heads to Columbia the following weekend.
Quentin Dorsey - Defensive Line
Another recruit that could be added to the pass rush for Kansas, three-star recruit Quentin Dorsey, is another defender Leipold has to prioritize this upcoming weekend. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive lineman can add solid size to the Jayhawks pass rush. With 54 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, and three sacks in his junior season, Kansas has to be excited about what Dorsey could bring to Lawrence.
Kansas will have to battle a familiar Big 12 foe, Iowa State, which Dorsey will visit right after his time in Lawrence. Fresno State is also in the mix, but Dorsey has already had his visit with the Bulldogs.
Maliek Brown - Wide Receiver
Thee-star recruit Maliek Brown is the lone offensive player on this list, but it is because he is the highest-rated wide receiver coming to Lawrence this weekend. Brown has a host of suitors after his commitment as he has five official visits set with Kansas, Louisiana Tech, Colorado State, Michigan State, and Big 12 foe TCU.
Brown can be a true deep threat for Kansas as he finished his junior season with 43 receptions for 768 yards, averaging 17.9 yards per reception, and finished with 11 touchdowns. With Kansas moving on to a new quarterback era after Jalon Daniels exhausted his eligibility and left for the NFL this offseason, Brown could be a fresh pass-catcher for Kansas in the future.
