1. Bill Self
I'm not going to be one of the people online calling for Coach Self's job, because the Hall of Famer's words hold much more weight than mine. However, Jayhawk fans have every right to be furious with his decisions on Saturday. He and his stubborn ways are slowly dragging down the team.
The team looked terrific in the first half, but Self's rotations in the ensuing 20 minutes left something to be desired. Flory Bidunga and Shakeel Moore, two of the most effective defenders on the team, did not see the floor at all in the second half. It doesn't seem like a coincidence that the Jayhawks gave up 60 points during that time frame.
KU fans will continue to berate veterans like Harris and Adams for their limited offensive skill set, but Self is the person responsible for getting the most of his roster. He remained unwavering in his decision not to adjust the lineup, even as his team went nearly five minutes without scoring during a crucial stretch of the outing.
The days of Kansas fans enjoying the brilliance of an X’s and O’s mastermind are fading. Self appears to have lost some of his edge in the NIL and transfer portal era. If he fails to adjust his rotations to maximize the team’s potential, the Jayhawks could be looking at another early exit from the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.
