Bill Self and the Kansas basketball program attacked the recruiting trail hard this year, earning the commitments of three high-profile prospects. The prize of KU's class is No. 3 recruit Darryn Peterson, but forwards Bryson Tiller and Samis Calderon also boast massive future potential.
While the Jayhawks have likely wrapped up their class, the coaching staff has continued to pursue multiple high school players. One of them includes Mouhamed Sylla, the top-rated center in On3.com's 2025 rankings. The Senegal native is expected to make his college decision in December, meaning it could come any day.
4-star center Mouhamed Sylla nears a college decision
Standing at 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, Sylla is a strong defensive presence who can switch and guard multiple positions. He attends Bella Vista College Preparatory in Phoenix and has dominated high school competition this year.
The schools on his final list are Oregon, Washington, Georgia Tech, and Kansas. While Oregon and Washington are considered the favorites, Sylla embarked on a visit to KU in October. It is unknown where the Jayhawks stand in his recruitment, but the two aforementioned West Coast schools lead significantly.
Sylla ranks among the top uncommitted players in the senior class. Kansas could use some big man help with Hunter Dickinson and KJ Adams set to graduate following the 2024-25 campaign. Still, it'd be surprising if Self and Co. pulled something off here.
This is the scouting report Sylla received from NBA Draft Room:
"Sylla is a wiry, strong and long-armed center from Senegal with a lot of upside. He fits the mold of rim-defending, rebounding, play-finishing big man. Heβs got a NBA level frame with broad shoulders, good length and great agility. Physically he reminds me a bit of a young Emeka Okafor.
Sylla has an emerging offensive game. He can score with either hand around the rim, has some ball-handling ability and can face-up and drive the ball to the basket."
