3. Bill Self

Perhaps the best thing that has ever happened to KU Athletics was Roy Williams going back home to coach North Carolina. That brought in Bill Self as coach, and the rest is literal history.

In his 21 years at Kansas, the Jayhawks have won 81.5% of their games, won 17 Big 12 regular season championships, made four Final Fours, and brought home a pair of National Championships.

It goes without saying, but Self has left an undeniable mark on Kansas basketball and college basketball as a whole. The Hall of Famer is arguably the best coach in the entire country and one of the best college basketball coaches of all time. He consistently has the Jayhawks near the top of the standings and rankings.

We have been extremely spoiled as fans to have Self as the coach of our team for this long. As a 27-year-old, I hardly remember a time when Self wasn’t patrolling the sideline in front of the Jayhawk bench. He won’t be around forever, so we need to take a step back and truly appreciate what we have while we have it.
