Kansas Basketball Stat No. 4 — Jamari McDowell played final four minutes of ballgame

Despite sitting on the bench for the first 36 minutes, true freshman Jamari McDowell was thrown into the fire after KJ Adams fouled out. It was a situation that Kansas basketball fans probably didn’t think he would be playing just three games into his collegiate career. He wound up grabbing a rebound in the closing seconds and drained the game-clinching free throws to put Kansas up by five points.

When asked about it postgame, Coach Self said: “To be honest with you, I don’t know it was so much confidence to put him in. I didn’t know who else to put in! So it was kind of one of those deals, but he was terrific. He was good and that limited time. He was plus nine and three and a half minutes, so that was pretty good.”

There was speculation that McDowell would redshirt or be a nonfactor this year. However, it seems as though Bill is confident in playing Jamari in big moments if his other guards aren’t performing up to par.
