Kansas basketball: 10 best Jayhawks point guards in the Bill Self era
By Tony Zuzzio
Kansas Basketball No. 8 Best Point Guard Under Bill Self: Devon Dotson (2018-2020)
Devon started all 66 games he played at KU. He was a blur with the ball and could go court to court in a flash. He was a perfect complement to Big Doke. He played two years with Kansas, averaging 14.9 points, 3.7 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.
The 2020 squad finished the year the No. 1 ranked team in the country and would have been the top overall seed entering the NCAA Tournament had it not been canceled due to COVID-19. This is one of the all-time what-ifs. A loaded squad for a run and a weak field entering the tournament could have been another title for Bill Self.
Kansas Basketball No. 7 Best Point Guard Under Bill Self: Russell Robinson (2004-2008)
While his numbers won’t jump off on a page. Russ Rob was the glue to some great KU teams, including the 2008 national title team. He had that New York tough defense that Self loves and was a gritty winning player.
Robinson started 108 of his 134 games at KU and had career averages of 7.1 points, 3.7 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. On the 2008 title team, he averaged 27.5 minutes a game and seven points with three assists and rebounds during the NCAA tournament.
