Kansas Basketball Experiment No. 2: Trying a five-out motion offense

Kansas brought in the most sought-after player in the transfer portal this offseason, but his role in the offense has yet to be identified. Although Hunter Dickinson could be classified as a stretch big considering he shot 42.1% from 3-point range last season, Coach Self didn’t necessarily use that strength to the team’s advantage on Sunday.

Instead of having Dickinson shoot it whenever he touches the ball, more plays should be designed for him in the pick-and-pop game. With a five-out offense, they’ll be able to get the most out of his underrated passing ability.

A five-out offense could be beneficial, especially if KU runs the aforementioned four-guard lineup. If Fort Hays State switches to zone, players in the corners can cut to the hoop for easy layups, or Kansas can use Dickinson’s 7-foot-2 frame to bully the smaller FHSU roster.
