Kansas basketball fans may soon have a new favorite NBA team if they don’t already thanks to the trio of Jayhawks now present on the Philadelphia 76ers.

It was announced Tuesday that former KU hoops star forward Marcus Morris Sr. would be sent to the 76ers as part of the James Harden trade between the 76ers and the Los Angeles Clippers. Morris will now be the third former Jayhawk on the roster alongside reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid and Kelly Oubre Jr.

What makes for an even better storyline is that Morris – a Philadelphia native – now gets to play for his hometown team.

That’s a dream come true for many kids who grow up playing sports across the country, and now Morris gets to make it a reality. You can bet his family will be excited as well to see him play in person more now that he’s back on the east coast.

The addition of Morris, along with the other players from the Clippers involved in the trade, should help the 76ers remain a contender in the Eastern Conference as the season goes on.

Last year for the Clippers, Morris averaged 11.2 points and 4 rebounds per game. If he can provide that type of production for the 76ers to compliment players like Embiid, Oubre, Tobias Harris, and others, then they may just be able to make some noise against the likely favorites in the east – the Boston Celtics.

Regardless of what happens, the Sixers will now be an easy team to cheer on for Kansas fans now that the trio of former Jayhawks have joined forces.
