3 storylines to follow during Illinois vs. Kansas basketball scrimmage
3. The Maui Strong fund
At the end of the day, this scrimmage is being played for a good cause. In August, wildfires in Lahaina, Hawaii, displaced thousands and injured hundreds of people. It was the result of Category 4 storm Hurricane Dora. The Lahaina Civic Center is where the Maui Invitational is played annually, and Kansas is one of the eight teams in the field this season.
As a result, Brad Underwood and Bill Self agreed to open the scrimmage that was originally supposed to remain a secret. They are expected to produce $2+ million of revenue from the scrimmage and will donate it all to the Maui Strong Fund, an organization supplying assistance to the natives of Lahaina and other areas of Hawaii that were affected.
So win, lose, or draw, just remember that this game doesn’t count and is being played for the greater good.
