The Kansas basketball coaching staff is eyeing Derek Dixon, a 4-star combo guard in the Class of 2025.

The Kansas Jayhawks have been scouting players in the 2025 class as of late, maintaining interest in Tounde Yessoufou, Sebastian Williams-Adams, and others. A new recruiting target has surfaced on the Kansas basketball radar.

Derek Dixon, a 6-foot-3 combo guard out of Gonzaga College High School, is one of the most talented players in his graduating year. The junior is currently ranked 74th nationally on 247 Sports and 91st on Rivals.

Although he is still awaiting offers from other premier college basketball programs, Dixon is gathering plenty of attention from scouts nationwide. The most recent school to join the mix is KU.

He spoke with Travis Graf of MADE Hoops about the schools that have been pursuing him. Syracuse, Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Villanova are recruiting him ‘the hardest right now,’ but he sprinkled in a comment about Kansas basketball that should keep Jayhawks fans on their toes.

“… Kansas has gotten involved. I’ve talked to Coach Norm (Roberts) from there.”

Those are some intriguing comments right there, especially considering the Jayhawks are by far the most prevalent school on his list. If Kansas decides to chase after him hard, they’ll likely put up a good fight.

Kansas currently holds commitments from Flory Bidunga, Labaron Philon, and Rakease Passmore for 2024. It might not be long before they receive their first pledge of 2025.

By the time Dixon competes at the collegiate level, Dajuan Harris and Kevin McCullar will have graduated, and Elmarko Jackson will likely be in the NBA. Coach Self might prioritize guards for the Class of 2025.

He shouldn’t be considered a priority this early in the process, but Derek Dixon is certainly a name for Kansas basketball fans to keep an eye out for as the staff wraps up its 2024 class.
