4. Late-game playcalling

This goes hand in hand with me saying Kotelnicki needs to make adjustments. The offensive playcalling in the latter stages of the Oklahoma State game was… ugh. Don’t get me started.

The final five drives last week ended as follows: Interception in the red zone, interception, missing a conversion on 4th-and-5 where the quarterback fumbled, missing a conversion on 4th-and-1 where the quarterback’s pass was tipped, and finally, the end of the game. Yikes!

While watching, you might have been asking: Where did that high-octane offense from the first half go? It all starts with the plays being dialed up in the booth.

Kansas football had last week’s contest IN THE BAG. But instead of following the same gameplan they had in the first half, Kotelnicki became conservative. They were playing to not lose the lead rather than to win.

Games cannot end like they did last time out. The Jayhawks need to keep their foot on the gas for 60 minutes. Things like that won’t even fly against the bottom feeders of the Big 12. The team better be coming up with some effective late-game plays this week.
