5. Special teams has been a major factor in KU’s improvements

Trevor Wilson returned a punt for a touchdown yesterday, the first special teams touchdown of the season. Yesterday also marked just the first missed field goal Kansas has missed all season. After finishing as a bottom five special teams in the FBS last year, former K-State coordinator Sean Snyder has taken his position group to new heights.

We are seeing KU taking the “smart route” with its special teams decisions. They lead the conference in touchbacks and have allowed the fewest punt returns too. Seemingly unimportant things like this have gone a long way for the Jayhawks.
