Kansas football: 5 quick takeaways from Jayhawks win against UCF Knights
4. The defensive line has been a terrific unit as a whole
Kansas’ defense couldn’t have gotten much worse than the product they put out last season. They allowed 35.5 points per game and ranked in the bottom ten of most team statistics. Not only have they improved this season, but they are actually one of the better units in the Big 12. One reason for that is the play of the defensive line.
Through six games, KU leads the conference in sacks. Austin Booker, a defensive end transfer from Minnesota, now has five of his own after recording another against UCF. He is slowly but surely establishing himself as a future NFL Draft prospect and dominant force on the D-line.
While Cobee Bryant and the secondary have played well this year, the D-line also deserves recognition for how often they get to the quarterback. They force them to make ill-advised throws and don’t allow plays to fully develop.
