The annual college basketball coaching rankings are out. Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self maintained his spot at the top of the list.

Busting Brackets, our FanSided affiliate for all things college basketball, releases a list annually in which they rank all Division I head coaches before the season begins. Contributor Joey Loose writes it up every year, and it is one of the most highly anticipated articles on their site.

The Kansas Jayhawks obviously have one of the best head coaches in the game — Bill Self. But where did he land on Busting Brackets’ rankings?

Bill Self ranked the best coach in college basketball for second straight year

For the second straight season, Bill Self has been ranked the best head coach in the sport. Considering he has reached four Final Fours, won two national championships, and at one point the program had won 14 consecutive Big 12 titles. Count the fact that he is one of the best recruiters in the nation, and this ranking makes perfect sense.

He had been ranked No. 1 heading into the 2022-23 season, No. 3 ahead of 2021-22, and No. 5 before 2020-21. This is what Loose had to say about the Pro Basketball Hall of Famer:

"An incredibly successful college coach, Self still sits atop the list after continued success with the Jayhawks. He got his start with solid work at Oral Roberts before leading both Tulsa and Illinois to Elite Eight runs. He took over at Kansas basketball in 2003 and has never missed the Big Dance, winning national championships in 2008 and 2002. What’s followed has been a slew of Big 12 titles, winning 17 regular season titles and 9 tournaments. While his Jayhawks were upended in the second round last year, he’s constantly building championship-level teams in Lawrence.– Joey Loose, Busting Brackets"

It is great to see Coach Self continuing to get the recognition he deserves. The hope is that he can bring the third championship during his tenure to Lawrence this year.
