Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self and two players held a press conference yesterday. Find out what he had to say.

The Kansas Jayhawks held a presser four days prior to Late Night in the Phog. Bill Self, KJ Adams, and Kevin McCullar were made available to the media. Some interesting comments arose from Coach Self specifically, and we highlighted some of the major ones.

In regards to the Arterio Morris situation:

“I’ve said all I’m going to say… you guys can ask and your questions are fair. I’ve been instructed the correct way to handle this — and even though it may not please those that are asking the questions, but it’s still the best way. Everything that’s been said has been said and what was said was not much, but until this is completed there’s not much you can say.”

Considering it is an ongoing legal investigation, I’m not surprised to see Self’s vague comments on the situation. He mentioned that his prior incident at Texas was “well-vetted.” This certainly won’t be the last time he is asked about it this season.

Whether Kansas basketball is open to bringing in a replacement for Morris:

“What we could do is be open to bring somebody in at Christmas… we wouldn’t sign somebody just to sign somebody. There could be guys available, especially international guys.”

This quote stood out to me the most during his presser. It wouldn’t be the first time Kansas basketball brought a player in midseason, like Silvio De Sousa or Ochai Agbaji. He’ll likely develop a better understanding of where the team stands after the first month, and injuries could also play a big factor in this. KU could go international, as Self said, or perhaps an in-house move with Zach Clemence would suffice.

How the team is looking so far:

“I think the chemistry has been good. This summer probably put us ahead since we have so many new faces… they certainly seem to like playing with each other.”

In his never-satisfied tone, Self gave the team about as good of a compliment as they could get. Still, he seemed pretty optimistic about the outlook of this year’s roster.

Plans for this year’s roster:

“I don’t think Jamari (McDowell) will be a guy we could look into doing that now,” he said. “I think Zach still is going to. The arrangement we had with Zach and what he wanted I think is very fair of what he requested. Unless something changes on the interior, I do see Zach still redshirting at this juncture.”

As expected, Clemence’s redshirt is expected to stay until further notice. After all, he asked Coach Self himself to redshirt so he could continue to improve his game. KU’s frontcourt consists of KJ Adams, Hunter Dickinson, Johnny Furphy, and Parker Braun.

I expected McDowell to redshirt prior to Morris’ dismissal from the team, but it seems they’ll need him as guard depth.
