Kansas football: 3 causes for concern, 3 reasons for optimism moving forward for Jayhawks
No. 3 Reason for Optimism: Special teams continued its excellence
Even Texas is invincible. Part of the reason Kansas was able to stay in the game as long as they did is due to the Longhorns kicking miscues. Bert Auburn missed two of four attempts, including both from over 30 yards out. Meanwhile, KU placekicker Seth Keller remains perfect on the season on his six field goal kicks.
Lance Leipold hired Sean Snyder, a former K-State special teams coach and the son of the legendary Bill Snyder, to coach this offseason. It’s paid off in a big way. KU went from finishing as the worst special teams unit in 2022 to beginning the year in the top five in FBS this season.
Punter Damon Greaves also had a strong showing on his busiest day of the year. He booted a 53-yarder and downed Texas within their 20-yard line three times. Kansas football’s special teams group has not committed a mistake all season — let’s keep it that way!
