Rakease Passmore emerges as leading recruiting target for Kansas basketball
A string of reports suggest Rakease Passmore could commit to Kansas basketball within the next week.
Bill Self always has a trick up his sleeve on the recruiting trail. The Kansas Jayhawks have been in contact with several top players in the Class of 2024, but Rakease Passmore looks in line to be the next player to commit.
A 6-foot-5 forward attending Combine Academy in Asheville, North Carolina, Passmore is an athletic wing with a solid outside shot. 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 44 player in the upcoming graduating year. Kansas has been recruiting him for the better part of one year, and it looks like he is strongly considering KU.
On3 recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw reported yesterday that the Hall of Fame head coach visited Passmore to watch him practice. The events that transpired indicate that the coaching staff liked what they saw.
Rakease Passmore immediately caught the attention of Kansas basketball
Soon after the news broke that Self and Co. were in to watch Passmore, he released his list of top four schools. Oklahoma, LSU, and Arkansas are the other schools he is considering, with the Hogs previously holding the steady lead. However, it seems that even Arkansas is out of the race, as Passmore canceled his official visit to Fayetteville and replaced it with a trip to see the University of Kansas.
Anonymous college basketball insider further confirmed the rumors on X. Keep in mind, Trilly is hardly ever wrong about this stuff.
Passmore spoke to On3 regarding what he likes about KU’s program. “Coach Self is one of the best college coaches of all time,” he said. “I have a solid connection with the staff and they have a good plan drawn out for me if I were to come there. They have a history of getting guys to the next level and they feel like I can be one of those guys with my athleticism and shooting. They’ve been able to show me other guys with similar playing styles that they’ve helped become pros.”
All signs point to Passmore committing to Kansas basketball in the next few weeks. The likelihood is that we can expect him to pledge to the Jayhawks following his official visit this upcoming Wednesday. It remains to be seen if this will affect the recruitment of fellow wing Liam McNeeley, who Self had an in-home visit with recently.
