According to a recent report from a college basketball analyst, Bill Self had an in-home visit with 5-star wing and Kansas basketball recruiting target Liam McNeeley yesterday.

Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self rarely misses on the recruiting trail. He always seems to have a backup option or a trick up his sleeve to pull the unthinkable. Recent reports suggest he might be pulling all the stops with Liam McNeeley.

McNeeley, the No. 15 player in 247 Sports‘ Class of 2024 rankings, is one of the best shooters in his graduating year. The 6-foot-7 forward attends Montverde Academy, the same school fellow Kansas basketball recruiting targets Cooper Flagg and Derik Queen go to.

Last week, he cut his final list to two schools — Kansas and Indiana, with the Hoosiers being the overwhelming favorite. He has taken official visits to both campuses, but recruiting analysts believe KU is practically out of the race to land him. When you have Coach Bill Self at the helm, though, nothing is certain.

College basketball insider Alex Karamanos shared on X that the Hall of Famer traveled to McNeeley’s home to speak with him and his family last night.

What could this mean? Could Self have been making a last-minute effort to lure him to Lawrence, or did McNeeley invite him to inform him he’d be committing to Indiana? After all, KU’s primary beat reporter, Michael Swain, has noted on multiple occasions that Mike Woodson’s Hoosiers are clearly in the lead. But as we’ve learned with the recruitment of players like Flory Bidunga, it’s not over until it’s over.

McNeeley’s decision day will likely come sometime in October, with his visits concluded and just two finalists remaining. Indiana is apparently his top choice, but perhaps Self’s visit changed his mind or will make him think his decision over a bit more.
