Big 12 football: Preview and predictions for each Week 5 conference game
Baylor Bears (1-3, 0-1 Big 12) at UCF Knights (3-1, 0-1 Big 12)
Texas mopped the floor with Dave Aranda’s squad last week, with the Bears falling by 32 points. The defense has performed even worse than last season for what is likely the most disappointing team in Big 12 football. Their season-opening home loss told us all we needed to know about how things would play out in 2023.
Meanwhile, UCF is still missing John Rhys Plumlee, the team’s star dual-threat quarterback. Still, they were able to put up over 30 points against a stout K-State defense last week on the road. Timmy McClain is more than capable of leading the team’s offense.
A Baylor road game against a team with a significantly more talented roster doesn’t spell out success for the Bears. In the possibility that BU signal caller Blake Shapen returns from his MCL injury — he’s been ruled day-to-day — this matchup could wind up being close. But even if he does return, the Bears simply aren’t playing Big 12-caliber football on either side of the ball.
Game Prediction: 37-14, UCF
