Kansas football: 5 predictions for the Jayhawks meeting against the BYU Cougars
3. Kedon Slovis turns the ball over twice
Maybe I haven’t watched enough BYU football this season, but Kedon Slovis looks like a bottom-five quarterback in the Big 12. Their offense ranks toward the end of several statistics in the FBS, and it all starts with who is under center.
In three games, Slovis has thrown for 661 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 1 interception on 55-for-90 passing attempts. Those numbers look less promising when you take into account his first game was against Sam Houston State in the program’s first-ever game at the FBS level, and the second was against FCS school Utah.
Slovis completed just 13-of-25 passes last week against Arkansas for 167 yards and 2 scores. He was also bailed out by Chase Roberts, who made a terrific touchdown catch in the red zone. Meanwhile, he averaged just 4.4 yards per attempt against Sam Houston. Considering he is not a threat outside the pocket, nothing screams ‘scary’ about Slovis’ matchup against the Kansas football defense.
Kansas forced two interceptions in each of its first two games before the defense faltered last week against Nevada. With the team back on its home turf and tensions high in the conference opener, I believe the Jayhawk crowd will rattle Slovis and force him to make some errant decisions with the football.
