Kansas football: 5 essential keys to victory against the BYU Cougars
4. A bounce-back game from Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels‘ performance against Nevada was not terrible by any means, but he certainly underperformed for his standards. He didn’t score a touchdown in a full game for the first time since 2021. Daniels threw for 298 yards on 27 attempts, making some suspect throws that should have resulted in interceptions.
After looking to be at full strength against Illinois, something seemed off with him last game. He was trying to play hero ball and made decisions that he usually doesn’t. We can chalk it up to KU overlooking Nevada, the proclaimed “worst team in FBS.”
Something else I’m looking for from Daniels against BYU is for him to become a dual-threat. He has rushed for 20 yards on 18 carries in his first two games of the season after totaling 425 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground a year ago. Although the coaching staff is limiting his presence as a runner because of his injury history, him breaking off a few runs would add another fun dynamic to the Kansas football offense. That being said, I have complete confidence in him bouncing back against BYU and their questionable secondary.
