This week’s tilt between BYU and the Kansas football team features a brother versus brother-matchup on both sides of the ball.
The Lassiter family has one of the longest athletic lineages in the history of the Kansas Jayhawks. Kwamie Lassiter enjoyed a decade-long NFL career after graduating from KU in 1994, and his son Kwamie II left the university as a top 5 all-time receptions leader in 2021. However, it has also produced talent at other collegiate programs, one of which will cross paths with Kansas this Saturday.
Kwinton Lassiter is a third-year cornerback at the University of Kansas. He’s having a breakout season in his final year of eligibility, catching his first two interceptions at the Division I level across KU’s first couple of games. He also forced a fumble against Missouri State.
There’s a chance he will be standing opposite his brother, Darius, when Kansas and BYU face off on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Like his brother, Darius played for two years at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. While Kwinton decided to stay local and commit to his father’s alma mater, Darius transferred to Eastern Michigan for one year before making the move to BYU.
Darius is the Cougars’ third-leading receiver in terms of yards and catches. He has totaled 9 receptions and 116 yards, even catching a touchdown in the team’s Week 2 victory over Southern Utah.
As you would expect, the two are as close as can be. They have played football with each other for their entire lives and play the opposite position from one another. But Darius’ recent post on the social media app ‘X’ suggests it’s all business until this week’s game concludes.
Kwinton responded with some playful brother-to-brother trash talk. Things like this are what college football is all about. The battle of the Lassiter bros adds yet another fun dynamic for what should be an exciting contest on Saturday afternoon.
