2. Luck was not on the Jayhawks’ side

Although it is true that Kansas did not play its best football last night, they certainly didn’t receive much help from the football gods.

Nevada fumbled five times — yes, five — and Kansas didn’t recover a single one. A couple of them fell right into the hands of the Wolf Pack, but others took bad bounces. One of them was retrieved by Taiwan Berryhill, but Hayden Hatcher also had possession and was partially out of bounds. As a result, Nevada retained the ball.

The Jayhawks were also without Cobee Bryant and Austin Booker in the first half due to targeting calls from the previous game. Both are top players at their respective positions. It was good for the guys beneath them on the depth chart to get some reps, but they will be on the field for most snaps during conference play.

In other words, nothing was going Kansas’ way yesterday. There were plenty of opportunities to capitalize on, and they weren’t able to. However, the team should have a better fate as the team gets more acclimated.
