Kansas Football Key Player No. 3: Devin Phillips

The leading nose guard on the Kansas football defense will look to stifle the Nevada run game. A 6-foot-2, 315 lbs defensive tackle, Phillips transferred in from Colorado State this offseason.

Although it does not reflect on the stat sheet, Phillips draws double teams nearly every run play and clogs up gaps up the middle. If he can continue to complete his assignments and be where he needs to be, Nevada will have a tough time getting it going on the ground.

An important stat to note is that the Wolf Pack have averaged 2.7 yards per carry thus far. That’s an absolutely horrendous number, and it could get even worse if Phillips is able to shed blocks and create tackles for loss.
