2. Penalties

When you look at the penalty stats for Kansas last week, nothing looks too bad. Four for 34 yards is better than what most teams do. However, those four were extremely costly.

First, you have the Mason Fairchild block in the back that erased Doug Emilien’s touchdown catch. Was it a block in the back? I’m not sure. But bad officiating is the norm in sports nowadays. Unfortunately, there is nothing anybody can do about it.

Another thing: Please, PLEASE don’t start picking up targeting calls again. Austin Booker and Cobee Bryant, two defensive standouts for Kansas football, will miss the first half of this week’s game due to targeting penalties they sustained vs. Illinois. They can’t afford to lose guys of their caliber when league play begins.

Let’s avoid the dumb penalties from now on. There’s no reason Kansas should give away free yards to a bottom-feeder like Nevada.
