QB Luke Altmyer

It’s always useful to know the opposing team’s starting quarterback. If you aren’t familiar with Altmyer, he just started his first career game at the college level after spending two years at Ole Miss. He is most known for filling in for Matt Corral in the Sugar Bowl as a freshman when the Rebels’ quarterback went down with an injury.

A former highly touted 4-star recruit, Altmyer was a great transfer portal pickup for the Illini after they lost DeVito to the pros. In his Illinois debut, he completed 18-of-26 passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Not the most impressive performance, but a pretty good beginning.

Altmyer must improve on his Week 1 performance, even against the soft Kansas football defense. In what should be a high-scoring bout, he won’t have much room for mistakes.
