Baylor Bears — 42-31 Loss vs Texas State

There was a good amount of hype for Baylor coming into the 2023 season. Blake Shapen was back after a fairly impressive 2022 and was projected to lead Baylor to a successful season. While the offense was just fine (31 points and 524 total yards), it wasn’t enough to overcome the defense’s shortcomings. What hurt Baylor was the fact that they had to settle for field goals on three of their drives, while the Bobcats were able to find the endzone on all six of their scoring drives. They will need to clean things up (two turnovers and nine penalties) if they want to turn this season around and find some success. Unfortunately, it certainly won’t get any easier next week.

Baylor hosts 14th-ranked Utah in what could already be a must-win game if the Bears want to have a successful 2023 season.
