5. The importance of Jason Bean returning to school cannot be overstated

Jason Bean isn’t Jalon Daniels, but he damn sure is a good backup. If he was the Jayhawks’ starter five years ago, we, as Kansas fans, probably would have been thrilled. To have this guy as merely a second-stringer goes to show how far this program has come.

After clearly losing the starting job to Jalon Daniels heading into 2023 and losing Kansas the game in the Liberty Bowl, he could have called it quits in Lawrence. No one would have blamed him for it. Yet he didn’t, and his returning exhibits the type of young man he is.

He is often too passive and makes poor decisions, but aside from a few ill-advised throws last night, he played just about as well as he could. And what he is able to do with his legs is just icing on the cake.
