No. 3: Keeping the Kansas football core healthy

When you’re playing a squad like Missouri State, which is a quintessential bye week for a Power 5 program, the most important thing to keep an eye on is that the top guys don’t put too much wear and tear on their bodies.

Knowing that several Jayhawks have a long history of injuries, it would be terrible if a starter went down with a serious injury this early in the season. Coach Leipold could likely get away with putting out the second team, and KU would still win by double digits.

It’s important for players to see game action at this stage of the year, but if the score becomes a three or four-score deficit early on, it will be time to pull the starters.
