We assembled a daily news roundup pertaining to all things Kansas Jayhawks.

It’s one of the most exciting times of the year in college sports. The football season has begun, while basketball recruiting is ramping up with games beginning in nearly two months.

News stories have been abundant for the Kansas Jayhawks as the team awaits its season opener on Friday and some important basketball visits.

Kansas football announces team captains

KU released its list of four team captains for the upcoming season. Three offensive players were named, while one on the defensive end received the honor.

  • Jalon Daniels (QB)
  • Mike Novitsky (OL)
  • Rich Miller (LB)
  • Mason Fairchild (TE)

All four of these players are upcoming seniors and could be spending their final year in Lawrence. And aside from Miller, KU’s captains were named to the Senior Bowl Watch List last week.

Kansas basketball official visits

A pair of highly touted combo guards, Jalil Bethea and Jared Harris, will arrive on campus sometime this weekend to take a tour of the university. After landing 5-star center Flory Bidunga earlier this month, head coach Bill Self’s next target is a hybrid forward or guard.

Former Jayhawk talks facility upgrades, stadium renovations

Ex-Jayhawk and current Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Daniel Wise commented on the new stadium renderings for Kansas football.

“It’s been a good thing to see for sure,” Wise said. “Watching them boys take over in Kansas, in Lawrence, I’ve got to catch a few games for sure. I saw the pictures of the new locker room and the weight room. It’s beautiful, and that’s good for them to have that. And the stadium is coming next, so hopefully I get a chance to see that, as well.”

He served on the team from 2015-2018, totaling 152 tackles, 43 of which were for loss, and 17 sacks.

K-State fraternity scuffle

A massive fight broke out during the Pledgesketball game for K-State fraternity Phi Delta Theta. Hundreds of students were involved during the event.

Cooper Flagg reportedly favoring Duke

Eric Bossi of 247 Sports gave his thoughts on the recruitment of Cooper Flagg yesterday.

“As these visits start, I would probably say that Duke’s still the leader and the team to beat headed in to these,” he said. “But Duke wasn’t going to get this guy without a fight and they’re not going to get this guy without a fight.”

Flagg is the consensus No. 1 player in the 2024 class and will take a visit to the University of Kansas during Late Night in the Phog 2023.
