A top-30 player in the Class of 2024, Labaron Philon included Kansas basketball and three other schools in his final list.

The Kansas Jayhawks have steadily been in the race for a handful of premier recruits in next year’s class. Labaron Philon is the most recent name to be added to the mix, as he included KU in his final four.

A 6-foot-4 point guard who can score at all three levels, 247 Sports rates him as the No. 3 player at his position and No. 27 nationally. The reigning Alabama Mr. Basketball awardee will choose between Alabama, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, and Kansas basketball.

He is coming off a junior year in which he scored over 1,000 points at his high school. Although he can score in several ways, scouts have taken note of his on-ball defending and playmaking. Philon is a potential NBA talent who could certainly use the coaching of Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Self.

Despite pledging to Auburn this past February, Philon backed out of his commitment less than three months later. Now, the Tigers seem to be completely out of the mix.

Philon will attend Link Academy in Missouri this fall after transferring from Baker in Alabama. He joins Tre Johnson, arguably the top player in his class, in Link Academy students with interest from Kansas.

He has an official visit to Ole Miss in mid-September and has expressed interest in doing the same to Cincinnati and Alabama. Kansas is treading lightly on Philon, but they could pursue him harder if they miss out on combo guard Jalil Bethea.

On3 expert Jamie Shaw wrote this in his scouting report:

“Labaron Philon is a quick on quick lead guard. He has long arms and a projectable frame with wide shoulders. Philon has a quick handle that gets him into the paint. He can knock down a jump shot with three-point range and consistency. There is a confidence and a competitiveness with Philon. He needs to add strength as he has a slight frame. There is upside on the defensive end; he can move his feet guarding the ball and is quick to get into the passing lanes. There is a natural smoothness he has on the ball with an upside to continue getting better.”
