WVU’s Neal Brown was named the most likely head coach to be fired after the season, so it is a make-or-break year for the Mountaineers. They are coming off a disappointing 5-7, marking the fourth consecutive season Brown has not eclipsed six wins.

The uncertainty with Garrett Greene under center raises concern, and the defense likely lands in the bottom three of the conference. NC State transfer Devin Carter should bolster offensive production, but there’s not much they can do if the defense cannot get a stop.

Although plenty of defensive production from last year’s team returns, they are returning one of the worst defenses in the nation. There are a lack of playmakers on that end of the ball, as they only recorded four interceptions in 2022 (only two teams had fewer in FBS). With increased competition in Big 12 football, I can’t fathom a scenario that they end up outside of the bottom two or three spots in the conference.
